A Remarkable West Indies mahogany

Tree Information
Common Name: West Indies mahogany
Scientific name: Swietenia mahogoni
Category: Champion (big) tree
Notes: As far as I know, the Caribbean Mahogany does not normally grow in Virginia, and yet there is a grove of them 120-150 feet high at Glen Beau Plantation, in Mineral, Louisa County. About 20 years ago, seedlings from these trees were planted and are now 35-foot mahoganies in Williamsburg. (Editors note: USDA Plants Database indicates this species is not known to occur north of Florida.)
