A Remarkable bur oak

Tree Information
Common Name: bur oak
Scientific name: Quercus macrocarpa
Category: Champion (big) tree
Notes: This photograph was taken on Sept. 11, 1902 by William Alwood of the only planted bur oak in his inventory. It was located at the agricultural experiment station - which was located on the hill where Burruss Hall now stands. It is very likely the same tree that now stands on the drill field, based on his statement in a 1932 letter and documents in the A. B. Massey collection. Alwood was vice-director of the station and head/professor of horticulture, mycology, and entomology.
