A Remarkable hackberry

Tree Information
Common Name: hackberry
Scientific name: Celtis occidentalis
Category: Unique tree
Notes: Rebecca Clark Puryear was almost a teenager when her daddy bought a new hay rake that could be pulled by a tractor, replacing one that was pulled by a mule. It was nearly 75 years ago when John Clark unhitched the mule from the rake for the last time, and a hackberry sprout began to grow in the empty space beside the stable and corn crib. Over the years, the hackberry tree grew, its trunk encompassing the rake. Now the two are bound together.
