A Remarkable pin oak

Tree Information
Common Name: pin oak
Scientific name: Quercus palustris
Category: Historic tree
Notes: This tree was planted to honor the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of England when they visited the model CCC camp at what was to become Fort Hunt Park, June 1939. A map of the area circa 1976 indicates there were originally two trees, Canadian oak trees, in excellent condition on 6-7-76. One was likely removed when the park road was widened. The map also indicates that President and Mrs. Roosevelt were present at the commeration.
