Notes: This tree is remarkable for not only thriving outside of its range (it is the current state champion), but also for its association with a remarkable individual. It shades the gravesite of Albert Speiden, 1868 - 1933, an architect whose work endures today and includes rehabilitaion of the Smithsonian Institution Tower, a building at Georgetown University, Union Market Terminal, and most of what is known as Old Town Manassas today. His daughter, Virginia Speiden Carper, a lifelong resident (96 years) of Manassas, gifted her home and a fund for its upkeep and restoration, to the Town in 2006.
