Notes: This southern red oak (Quercus falcata) is located on the campus of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg. It is used frequently as a symbol on city literature and as an area where the flag division of the school band practices. When the land was donated to the school board the owner, who obviously loved the tree, placed a covenant on the deed of the property saying that the school board could do nothing that would harm the tree. It is over 100 feet tall. It was selected as the 1998 Heritage Tree Award by the Tree Stewards of Greater Lynchburg.
