It is the site of the nation's first Thanksgiving in 1609; the home of Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; and U.S. President William Henry Harrison. In 1862, Berkeley Plantation was headquarters and supply base for 140,000 Union troops under the command of Gen. George McClellan. President Lincoln reviewed troops here.
