Notes: Known as the Willoughby Oak, this tree is on the Norfolk Navy Base. Originally nominated as a big tree by Steven Martin in 1989, when it was estimated to be 500-600 years old. The tree was nominated again in 2005 by Holly Carson, an environmental educator with Keep Norfolk Beautiful. It was nominated a third time by Dorothy Marshall, a tree enthusiast living in Norfolk. It was nominated a fourth time by Jack Kauffman with the Virginia Department of Forestry, who also related a story that Blackbeard climbed the tree to watch over the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay
